Good news for everyone who spends their days (and sometimes nights) with MySQL and its relatives: at FOSDEM 2027, we’ll all be in the same room.
It’s organized together by MySQL, MariaDB, Percona, VillageSQL, and OurSQL Foundation, and it’s open to the whole open source database ecosystem around them. The idea is simple: we’re one community, so let’s show up like one.
Same room, bigger family
If you’ve been to FOSDEM before, you probably know the “MariaDB, MySQL & Friends” devroom. This year it’s getting a wider door and a new name: The M-Ecosystem.
Database servers, yes — but also the storage engines, connectors, proxies, and tools that people actually build on every day.
- When: Sunday, January 31, 2027
- Where: the ULB Solbosch campus in Brussels, Belgium (the conference itself runs January 30–31)
Got a talk in you?
We’re looking for deep technical talks on MySQL-compatible software and services: query optimization, replication and high availability, InnoDB and other storage engines, performance tuning, upgrades at scale.
Just as welcome are talks on the rest of the ecosystem — forks, proxies, connectors, backup, monitoring, and observability tooling — and especially on work that spans projects: cross-compatibility, mixed-version fleets, or a feature or fix that landed in more than one codebase.
Whether you build it, run it, or research it, we’d love to hear your story.
Talks are about 20 minutes, in English, and about open source work.
How to submit
- Head to the FOSDEM call for proposals.
- Pick the track “The M-ecosystem”.
- Send us your idea.
Not sure if it fits? Just ask us in Slack — we’re happy to help.
Save the date, tell a friend, and see you in Brussels!
